Sketching with Stitches: Hana-fukin Intensive____First Tuesdays (10/7, 11/4, 12/2) 6 PM to 8:30 PM

Create your own botanical hana-fukin—an embroidered cloth rooted in the Japanese sashiko tradition—in this beginner-friendly, 3-session workshop. You’ll go from sketching your design to stitching your final piece, learning key techniques for borders, outlines, and even stitches along the way.

What you’ll learn:

• The history and artistry of hana-fukin, with inspiration from botanical examples
• How to sketch and plan your embroidery design using live plants as reference
• Preparing your cloth and sewing clean borders
• Even stitching on straight and curved lines
• Outlining and refining botanical motifs with sashiko techniques

By the end, you’ll have a finished hana-fukin featuring your own botanical design—perfect for display, gifting, or everyday use.

Cohort A (First Tuesdays): Tuesdays, Oct 7 • Nov 4 • Dec 2 (2.5 hrs each; 7.5 hrs total)

No experience required. All core materials provided. Just bring your creativity and leave with a handmade piece rich in tradition and personal meaning.
