We brought Aurora into the shop because it feels like a meditation on light — not just the kind that fills a room, but the kind that shapes the way we work, think, and see color. As evenings draw in and natural light fades, Selvedge turns its attention to illumination in all its forms — from the ethereal Aurora Borealis that paints the northern sky to the steady, diffused light artists cherish for its quiet honesty.
This issue celebrates color as language: in the exuberant home of Zandra Rhodes, the painterly weaves of Harriet Wallace-Jones, and the grounded tones of Sámi textile artist Elsa Montell-Saanio. Scandinavian design threads through every page — reverence for light meeting long, dark winters — in Marimekko’s bold clarity, Arne Jacobsen’s calm precision, and the madder reds of Norwegian folk dress, now inspiring Tim Parry Williams’s research.
For us, Aurora feels like an invitation to slow down and notice how light interacts with cloth, comfort, and care. It reminds us that warmth isn’t only about temperature — it’s the glow of handwoven wool, the patience of good design, and the small rituals that make winter bearable.
